What did we do on our half day?

 

     We spent our half day with our first grade buddies in Ms.Burns' class. We had so much fun working together making thank-you cards and bookmarks for our veterans.  We also took a nature walk in Crestwood Park.

Finishing our Biome Quilt

After researching the world's biomes and creating our quilt pieces, we put them together to make our finished biome quilt!  Mrs. Groh shared this great idea with me several years ago, when she was my student teacher.  Thank you Mrs. Groh for such a fun project!

Food Chains!

Our fourth grade team inherited this fun ecosystem puzzle from Mrs. Barber!  After putting it together, we found and recorded five living and non-leaving parts of the ecosystem, and a food chain.

Energy Pyramids!

After studying food chains, we made a model of how much energy is transferred to the top by making energy pyramids.

 

 

 

 

 

The Daily Three

Everyday we work on three very important parts of our Literacy Block Time.  We call it the Daily Three:  "We Read to Self", "We Write", and "We Word Study", (which includes spelling, grammar, and vocabulary).   We also use technology in all aspects of our "Daily Three" We practice the "Daily Three" independently while Mrs. Garrison works with individuals and small groups.  

World Biome Research

 

 

This week we were assigned a world biome to research. We used the internet and library books to find out what kind of plant and animal life live there, the climate, and places in the world our biomes are located.  It was fun to work and learn together.

 

Hand Maps

Our social studies unit on maps and landforms ended last week with our "Hand Map" project.  The students placed various landforms on their island and included a map key, compass rose, and map scale.  I think they turned out great!  Don't you? 

Indoor Recess

Taking a Break

Well, Hurricane Isaac reached Missouri this week causing us to have our first indoor recess. We work so hard during the day, we have to take a brain break to relax with friends for awhile.
